Weeds are just plants in the wrong place

Cannon has created a series of exotic, textile ‘weeds’, making the viewer question whether the weeds are man-made or natural.

The 'Weed' is a man-made concept - it's status is dependent upon location. Weeds are weeds because we view them as out of place. Similarly, plants are exotic when they are out of place. However, exotic plants are seen as desirable and weeds, undesirable.

Are these objects ugly or beautiful, alien or exotic, undesirable or desirable? The work invites viewers to question how society attributes status to plants, and to extend this line of investigation to a broader cultural context.
