Caribbean Artists Salon

Indra Khanna founded the Caribbean Artists Salon, the first of which was held at her home in June 2018.  She continued running it until November 2023, at which point the running of the Salon was handed over to the artists.

Organised as a response to the complaints of many artists to feeling isolated and their work being mis-understood, The Salon was for artists with shared cultural links, at all stages of their careers, to meet other artists and share work, experiments and ideas, ask for advice, make links, network, and talk about art for a few hours. They were friendly events, non-competitive, time set aside from daily worries to talk about culture, and be refreshed.  No recording was allowed, so people could speak freely.  Initially held at home, with refreshments provided by Khanna, as the Salon grew it was also held at meeting places such as The 198 Gallery, The South Bank, Ruby Cruel and in Birmingham.  As Covid struck, the Salon moved online, which enabled artists from around the world to join in.  These were such a success, that the Salon continued after the pandemic by alternating online and in-real-life meetings.

By the end of her time organising, over ninety artists had attended at least one Salon, including artists based in the UK, the US, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
